The recycling of spent Li-ion batteries to create new ones is intrinsic to this plan and VSPC, as Lithium Australia’s battery division, has a major role to play.
Lithium Australia has developed proprietary extraction processes for the conversion of all lithium silicates (including mine waste), and of unused fines from spodumene processing, to lithium chemicals. From those chemicals, Lithium Australia – with vital input from VSPC and its wholly owned spent battery recycler Envirosteam Australia Pty Ltd – plans to produce advanced components for the battery industry globally.
By uniting resources and innovation Lithium Australia, along with its subsidiaries, seeks to vertically integrate lithium extraction, processing and recycling to achieve greater sustainability in the mining and battery manufacturing industries, as well as supply chain security and a reduction in environmental impacts across the board.
